McGovern could be considered the Barry Goldwater of the left; a candidate who lost terribly but became a standard-bearer of principled politics.

Few Democrats, despite electoral success, have matched McGovern’s commitment to the fearless defense of progressive policies. Can there be any doubt, considering Nixon’s corruption, war crimes, and drug war, that McGovern was the better candidate?
